Potential Volunteer Positions:

Adult:

If you are an Adult then you have these options:

Regularily Scheduled:

Front desk: Welcome visitors, collect hiking fees, answer phones, take reservations for programs, and use cash register for the bookstore. Shifts approximately 4-hours; twice a month on weekdays, once a month for weekends. Training provided. 18+

Admission Booth: Greet visitors, collect hiking fees, and answer questions about hiking trails. Approx. 4 hour shifts, once a month, Saturday or Sunday. Training provided. 16+

Pre-school: Classroom aide both indoors and out on the trails. Must like small children and have patience. Teaching experience helpful, but not required. Half day shifts once a week. September - May. Training provided.

Raptors: Work with our live raptors. This includes cage cleaning, preparation of live food and dedicated work with the birds. Mandatory one-year commitment, at least 3 hours per week.

Drop-In Positions:

Land Stewards: Assist staff with a wide variety of invasive species control, native planting, and landscaping. This is a wonderful learning opportunity about plants native to Wisconsin woods, prairies and wetlands. Mon, Weds, Fri 9 to noon, Sat 9:30 to noon. Dress for the weather. HS and older.

Artisans: Perform various tasks to maintain the buildings and grounds. Light construction, fences, decks, bridges, woodworking, painting, and general nature center upkeep. We have a complete workshop in the building. Wednesday-Saturday mornings, 9 to noon. Dress for the weather.

On Tuesdays, join the retired group “Ray Team” construction/repair crew from 8:30 to 2:30; bring jokes/lunch.

Special Events:

Preschool pancake breakfast Saturday morning March 8. Serve pancakes to families.

Earth Day Saturday April 19. Help with canoeing, fishing, crafts, cake cutting and more.

Birdseed Sale Saturday October 11. Load cars with seed, process orders, make phone calls.

Halloween Hikes Saturday evening October 25. Indiana Jones theme. Lead families on night hikes with lit trails, do crafts and more.

Recycle Day Saturday November 15. Unload recyclables out of cars, direct traffic.

Special events in general.

Special event organizer. Take charge of one of our events, or help us start a new one.

On-Call Positions:

Summer camp assistant. Help Audubon teachers with a wide variety of weekday summer learning programs for school-age children. Volunteer shifts are weekly; mornings or afternoons throughout the summer. We send information in March. These positions fill quickly. Students, 12 and older, and any teachers are especially welcome.

Clerical/Computer Assistants: Help with office work on weekdays.

Outdoor Work (high school/college):

Land Stewards: Assist staff with a wide variety of invasive species control, native planting, and landscaping. This is a wonderful learning opportunity for anyone interested in plants native to Wisconsin woods, prairies and wetlands. Dress for the weather, and eat a good breakfast before you come! We work on Saturdays from 9:30-12noon all year long. Please be prompt. You can join the adults during summer and school holidays on Monday Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9-12noon. Once we have your application in hand, you do not need to commit to any amount of weeks if you are busy with other activities. Just come when you have a free morning.

Artisans: Perform various tasks to maintain the buildings and grounds. Light construction, fence work, wood chipping trails, painting, general nature center upkeep. Good for Eagle Scout projects. Saturdays from 10-noon and some weekdays in the summer. Dress for the weather. High school and college age students.
